Skin concern · Pigmentation

Pigmentation and sun damage.

Those brown patches, sun spots and uneven areas that have crept in over the years — the legacy of sunshine and time — can be broken down and lifted away, revealing clearer, brighter skin underneath.

Why pigmentation appears

Pigmentation is the skin producing too much melanin in some places and not others. Years of sun exposure are the biggest driver — UV light tells the skin to make protective pigment, and over time that pigment clusters into the spots, patches and general unevenness we recognise as sun damage and ageing.

Hormones, inflammation and simply getting older all play a part too. Once it’s settled into the deeper skin, a cream alone rarely shifts it — the pigment needs to be targeted directly and broken up before the body can clear it.

How and where it shows

  • Sun spots and age spots — defined brown marks on the face, chest, hands and anywhere sun-exposed.
  • Patchy, uneven tone — a general loss of clarity and brightness.
  • Freckling that has darkened or spread over the years.
  • An overall ‘weathered’ look from cumulative sun exposure.

An honest word

IPL works best on lighter skin tones with clearly defined pigmentation, and it isn’t suitable for all skin types or for very recent sun exposure. Some pigmentation also has medical causes that need a different approach. Anne assesses your skin honestly at consultation and will only recommend IPL if it’s genuinely right for you.
